Ben is has partnered on numerous housing developments in District 2. He believes it’s going to take more than non-profit partnerships to reduce homelessness in Omaha – the city needs to incentivize private, minority housing developers to heed the call to remedy housing insecurity.

His “Good Neighborhood” policy also made for safer, cleaner neighborhoods. Creating clear lines for establishments to uphold or face having to revoke their certificate of occupancy.
Ben also championed the newly-formed Omaha Municipal Land Bank to turn abandoned lots and land to investors who would seek to build them up for the betterment of the community. This initiative has created a path to land ownership for the community.
An increase in affordable housing and senior living communities
- Ben developed a relationship with Habitat for Humanity that’s resulted in the construction of 70-80 houses in District 2, and a relationship with Holy Name Housing that’s resulted in another 30-40 affordable houses.
- He led a push to tear down Spencer Homes and build north Omaha’s second purpose-built community in ten years
Creation of a City Wide Landlord Registry
The rental inspection and registration ordinance helps ensure that all rental properties in Omaha are safe and meet basic standards. A significant portion of residential rental properties within the city are not being properly maintained as required.
The helps in holding accountable the owners responsible for deteriorating conditions of properties are harmful to the health and welfare every citizen living in the city.
