The Growth of New North Omaha Neighborhood
Ben stands with a record of directing over $2.5 Billion in capital investment in the revitalization of North Omaha, including:
- A revitalized Ames Plaza, which houses Heartland Workforce Solutions, Planet Fitness, ResCare Workforce Development and more. | “Heartland workforce Solutions was a major achievement for North Omaha. … Now, they’re doing job training, and a credit program for generationally-unemployed people. All of that happened as a result of knowing who to call and what collaborations were needed to make the right moves.”
- Walmart Supercenter, near 50th and Ames Ave., has created over 300 jobs since being built in 2013. | “I traveled to Arkansas twice to negotiate the investment of business in people and clear the way for building in that neighborhood. I got that done.”
- Capital District, a $205 million redevelopment project that has re-invigorated a former two-block stretch of parking lots at 10th & Capitol Streets.
- Millwork Commons, a $300 million revitalization of a former industrial park that once housed millwork factories.
- Malcolm X Foundation, Securing a building and land grant to expand into a full size memorial and educational site built with utilizing revenue from the city’s turnback tax. | “The legacy of Malcolm X is the legacy of Omaha. The center served as a local unification point this summer and continues to engage the larger Omaha community as we experience social change.”
- NorthStar Foundation, an after-school program for boys that provides education support, experiences and opportunities to bolster the future successes of these younger community members
- NONA: the North Omaha Neighborhood Alliance hosted the national Neighborhoods USA event here in Omaha bringing in $4M impact on growing local spending.
