Our Culture is the Lifeblood of Our Community
Ben describes the summer protests of 2020 as the past is still our present, it has never completely gone away.
“We see these patterns of momentum for social change. We say we want to have the discussion – to make real progress in healing – and then the energy dissipates. Then, we go back to our siloes and wait for the energy to come again.”
In addition to community conversation and action – to successfully address cultural breaks – Ben believes our major businesses and community outreach also has to be more involved. The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation is just one step in remembering culture and the struggle for civil rights.
Establishing a Dedicated Fully Accesable Black Museum
Ben wants to establish a standalone Black Museum in north Omaha, built from the ground up, that includes exhibits celebrating the Tuskegee Airman, 24th and Glory, and other Black stories proudly representing this region of America.
